MURR LEDGES, BAY OF FUNDY Surrounded by vapor on a frigid winter morning, a herring weir stands in shoal water near the Murr Ledges. Also referred to as “sea-smoke” because of the way it moves over the water, this winter fog is formed when cold air masses become warm and moist through contact with open water. The moist air then rises through convection, and condensation immediately occurs.
